A moment

between

frou & flou

falls

into

place

A draft of a dress

incomplete

yet replete

with pleats,

tucks, puffs,

puckers and crimps

crisp

folds and furrows

gathered

together in layers

threaded and pinned

to (almost) perfection.

The heavy

topples the light

makes it fall;

ripple, roll,

down;

the hard pushes

the soft

makes it

compress, contract

or expand-

even explode.

Frou-frou

in french

is above all

A sound

Like the snishing

Of silk or

The rubbing

Of paper

Around the waist or

Between

The fingers.

In Victorian times

clothing was much about

sound

as it was material, shape

or colour

(when mauve was the

new black)

you could hear fashion

coming.

In couture

flou is the dress

indistinct, unsharp,

rippling

with edges

that extend

to infinity.
